Artlune is honoured to feature one of our emerging artists, Sheli Gupta, in honour of International Women's Day. Passionate in creating images, Sheli exemplifies the attitude of ingenuity and tenacity that many women in the art field now possess. Come along as we explore her experiences, difficulties, and motivational path as a female artist.
Q: A woman's job and obligations are multifaceted. How can you manage all of these responsibilities and yet find time for your art?
A: Being responsible is not a quality that just women possess; everyone shares it. Despite what society may think, I think it's important to put my passions first and find time for my craft even with other obligations. It all comes down to trusting my gut and realizing what matters most to me.
Q: Could you explain your previous experience working with Artlune?
A: Working with Artlune has been an amazing experience for me. Because of the team's consistent commitment and support, artists like myself have been able to flourish in a loving environment. We've succeeded as a group by pursuing new creative opportunities.
Q: What difficulties did you encounter as a female artist?
A: The difficulty for female artists is frequently dispelling myths and establishing their value in a largely male-dominated field. I've persisted in my artistic journey and remained loyal to my instincts despite social pressure.
Q: What guidance would you give aspiring female artists?
A: I would only advise you to never give up on your passion. Recognize your value, follow your gut, and let your work speak for itself. Your perseverance and commitment will open the door to achievement.
Q: What achievements from the past year do you feel most proud of?
A: I developed a reading habit and reestablished a connection with my work last year, both of which gave me great happiness. Making my artistic endeavours a priority has brought me satisfaction and pride despite life's obstacles.
Q: Which female artists come to mind when you think about inspirational women?
A: Three female artists—Jesus Joy Brox, Mayuri Chari, and Shilo Shiv Suleman—continually inspire and have an impact on my artistic development.
Q: Have you come across any unfavourable stereotypes about female musicians, whether they are established or aspiring?
A: As a well-known artist, it has been difficult for me to question how society views female creativity, especially when it comes to topics of female sexuality. Nonetheless, I think that art has the ability to dispel misconceptions and spark important conversations.
Artlune salutes Sheli Gupta and other women who persist in challenging norms and pushing limits in the art industry. Happy Women's History Month!
